Woman Found Guilty of Stabbing Boyfriend 25 Times

A jury has convicted a Sierra Vista woman on a charge of first degree murder, in the stabbing death of her boyfriend.

Prosecutors say 21-year-old Ajelina Lewis stabbed William Palmer 25 times while he was sleeping in March of last year.

Lewis' defense claims an intruder stabbed him, but a Cochise County jury found her guilty Thursday.

Lip Hair with a Cause

Some men prefer a clean shaven face, while others are drawn to the aesthetic appeal of a full mustache.

During the month of May, Sierra Vista Firefighters are putting their preferences aside by growing a new or maintaining an existing mustache in order to help support the newly established HERO Campaign in Sierra Vista.

“Our department held the first event last year, just as an internal contest,” said coordinating Firefighter Robert Thoele. “However, other agencies heard about it and started calling, saying they wanted to participate too! So this year we elected to expand the contest to all public safety agencies in the County to raise money for charity,” explained Thoele.

Registration costs $5.00 and is open to “anyone willing to put their pride aside and grow like a champ” according to the registration form. The contest begins May 1, and judging will be held at 6 p.m. on June 1 at Buffalo Wild Wings (205 S. Highway 92); the judges are Fire Chief Randy Redman, Police Chief Ken Kimmel, and Mayor Rick Mueller—all mustache aficionados. Teams of five are also encouraged to register. The following categories will be judged: Best in Show, Most Disturbing, Most Fitting, Dirt Lip, High Speed Low Drag, and Preexisting.

Army Deploys Psy-Ops on U.S. Senators Including John McCain

The U.S. Army illegally ordered a team of soldiers specializing in "psychological operations" to manipulate visiting American senators into providing more troops and funding for the war, reports Rolling Stone Contributing Editor Michael Hastings, and when an officer tried to stop the operation, he was railroaded by military investigators.

The orders came from the command of Lt. Gen. William Caldwell, a three-star general in charge of training Afghan troops – the linchpin of U.S. strategy in the war.

"My job in psy-ops is to play with people’s heads, to get the enemy to behave the way we want them to behave," says Lt. Colonel Michael Holmes, the leader of the unit, who received an official reprimand after bucking orders. "I’m prohibited from doing that to our own people. When you ask me to try to use these skills on senators and congressman, you’re crossing a line."

Man’s Death Accidental, Authorities Say

From svherald.com:

A Sierra Vista man is dead after shooting himself with a gun he thought was unloaded, the Tombstone Marshal’s Office announced Monday.

James Freiberger, 36, was at a party in the 200 block of South Haskell Street in Tombstone on Friday night and “was playing Russian Roulette when he put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger,” a release from the marshal’s office reads.

The marshal’s office was contacted about the incident at about 7:41 p.m.

Calls to the marshal’s office for additional details were unsuccessful Monday.

Members of the Tombstone Volunteer Fire Department, Health Care Innovations, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and the Sierra Vista Police Department assisted with the investigation.
