Grass fire caused Three Canyons neighborhood to evacuate

A grass fire started in the area of Mallek Lane between Three Canyons and Hereford roads on Tuesday afternoon, Cochise County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carol Capas said.

Deputies and Fire crews arrived at the scene and saw that the fire was spreading rapidly towards the residential neighborhood.

Deputies and Border Patrol agents closed roadways to all incoming traffic into the Three Canyons neighborhood, and also alerted twelve residents of a saftey evacuation, Capas stated.

Monument Fire almost completely contained

Crews are starting to mop up the Monument Fire, south of Sierra Vista.

The fire started 16 days ago and is now 90 percent contained, after burning over 30,000 acres. Dozens of homes and four businesses were burned.

Fire crews are putting out hotspots. Firefighters say residents might see flareups, but those are well within the control lines.
