Some natural areas untouched by Monument Fire

Some natural areas untouched by Monument Fire

While much of the landscape of the area south of Sierra Vista has been scorched due to the Monument Fire, we are very fortunate that several natural areas, perfect for bird watchers, hikers and cyclers, remain pristine and welcome visitors.

For peaceful strolling, the San Pedro Riparian Natural Conservation Area has 40 miles of trails.  You’ll share the trails with 100 species of breeding birds and 250 species of migrating and wintering birds, and of course wildlife such as beaver, javelina, deer and coyote.

Black sludge flooding fills Carr, Miller canyons area

Mary Graf posted this video of the damage on Facebook. The black muck had little trouble running straight down the hill after the Monument Fire burned up what little protection these homes had against flash floods.

Law enforcement officers had to restrict access to some neighborhoods because of the damage. The area could get hit again today.
