Forest Service is holding an open house at historic Florida Station

Explore Sierra Vista, AZ - Old Post Cemetery, Ft. Huachuca

With so much to see, we invite you to visit Sierra Vista and encourage you to explore our attractions, learn about southwestern military history, visit our ghost towns, explore the archaeological finds, mountain bike in the canyons and hike along the river.

Located in Southeastern Arizona, Sierra Vista’s history dates back 13,000 years to the Clovis people – hunters of the now-extinct mammoth and other large game. In later years, the area was home to Cochise and Geronimo, whose conflicts against the U.S. Army are legendary. Also known as the “Hummingbird Capital of the United States,” Sierra Vista is one of the must-see places in the world for bird watchers and naturalists.

America's Great Outdoors: study shows local economy and jobs benefit from National Parks

In a study conducted by the National Parks Service local economies and jobs benefit greatly from having a National Park in their area. The study showed that from 2009 to 2010 there was an increase of $689 million to the economy and over 11,500 jobs, by visitors to the National Parks across the United States.

This good news comes ahead of a White House Conference on Conservation, hosted by the Department of the Interior. The conference will spotlight conservation efforts that are community driven, as part of the President's America's Great Outdoors initiative.

Day trips in southwestern Arizona

Whether you are a tourist or a local there is always something to do in Arizona during the wonderful winter months.

One such adventure might be to just hop in your vehicle and drive. According to the Sierra Vista website at www.sierravistaaz.gov/egov/docs, there are several different options. It all depends on the mood you are in and how adventurous you want to be.
