Large numbers of visitors are expected this Memorial Day weekend to the Coronado National Forest’s most popular campgrounds and picnic areas.

Bureau of Land Management begins fire restrictions

Effective Wednesday, May 22, the Gila District of the Bureau of Land Management, to include all districts of Coronado National Forest, Saguaro National Park, Coronado National Memorial, Chiricahua National Monument, Fort Bowie National Historic Site, Tumacacori National Historical Park, and the Arizona State Forestry Division will implement campfire and smoking restrictions in southeastern Arizona.

Starting May 22 and until the order is rescinded the following are prohibited:

More than 2.5 million acres of the Colorado River District of the Bureau of Land Management has been placed under fire restrictions.  This is done in order to protect the public, natural resources, and reduce the risks of wildfires.  The restriction applies to land in western Arizona and southeastern California along the Colorado River.
