Opening statement from McCain at SASC meeting on Syria, this morning in DC

The following is a statement from Senator McCain's speech at the Senate Armed Services Committee meeting

U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) today delivered the following opening statement at the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on Syria:

“Thank you, Mr. Chairman. I join you in welcoming our distinguished witnesses.

“Let me also thank you, Mr. Chairman, for convening today’s hearing at my request on the horrific situation in Syria. The urgency of this hearing has only grown more important over the past several weeks. It is estimated that nearly 7,500 lives have been lost, and many informed observers even think that figure could be low. Syria today is the scene of some of the worst state-sponsored violence since the Balkans.

House Democrats blast bill to make university education more expensive-no military exemption

House Democrats on the Appropriations Committee were outraged by a plan put forth by Tea Party Republicans to make university education more expensive for students and were equally outraged by the rejection of an amendment to exempt veterans and active duty service members from the mandatory $2000 tuition payment.
