Cochise County offering Hepatitis A vaccine

COCHISE COUNTY (Tucson News Now) - An outbreak of Hepatitis A in the west linked to a frozen-fruit mix has health workers offering vaccine.

State and local health workers say no cases have been reported in Cochise County, but at least 30 infections have turned up elsewhere, including seven cases in Arizona.

The outbreak has been linked to the consumption of Townsend Farms Organic Anti-Oxidant Blend berrymix that was sold at Costco.  Costco has removed the product from its stores and is contacting those who bought it.

Even without the vaccine, health workers say it appears that there is a very low risk of contracting hepatitis A from the berry mix.  They're asking persons who have consumed the berry mix in the last 14 days, and have not previously had a hepatitis A vaccine (or have not previously been diagnosed with hepatitis A) to consider getting a vaccination against hepatitis A.

Sheriff's Office: Smoldering skunk starts brush blaze

SIERRA VISTA, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A man is under investigation and possibly facing charges in connection with a weekend brush fire that burned 25 acres and several cars in a salvage yard.  Cochise County Sheriff's investigators say it started with a skunk set on fire.

According to the department's Facebook page: "Initial information indicates a male subject potentially started the fire after catching a skunk in a bag of dog food, lighting it on fire, and having the animal run from the scene starting the grass on fire."

The department says five homes were evacuated when the fire started Saturday afternoon on Fordney Lane in the community of Fairbanks.  Several fire departments responded including the Whetstone Fire Department, Fry Fire Department, Huachuca City Fire Department, State Land, Douglas Hot Shots and 2 Slurry Planes from the Bureau of Land Management.  They were able to put the fire out in a few hours.
