Sundt Construction, Inc. Wins Associated General Contractors of America’s Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Special Recognition Award
Arizona’s Fort Huachuca Advanced Individual Training Barracks Complex was one of the most successful construction partnerships of 2010, according to the Associated General Contractors of America.
As a result, the project’s contractor, Sundt Construction, Inc., was one of only four firms to receive the association’s Marvin M. Black Excellence in Partnering Special Recognition Award.
“You need skills to build a good project, but you need a lot more patience, experience and savvy to build successful construction partnerships,” said Kristine L. Young, the association’s incoming president and president and CEO of Des Moines, Iowa-based Miller the Driller. “In today’s construction environment, being able to get many people on the same page is essential to success.”
The barracks project included construction of four 91,000 square feet, three-story barracks with four outdoor assembly areas, a quarter mile running track with an artificial turf infield and physical training areas. The project team’s use of advanced three dimensional planning and schedule software allowed designers and construction workers to identify issues early during design and construction, to make changes on paper, while eliminating re-work and delays to complete the project on time, the Associated General Contractors of America stated.
