Buena High School principal resigns due to health concerns | News
Sierra Vista Unified School District is reporting the Buena High School Principal, is resigning.
John Schreur, submitted his letter of resignation to the Sierra Vista Unified School District Governing Board yesterday, citing health reasons as the cause. Schreur had been the principal at Buena High School for the last two years, but has been in the education field for nearly 35 years. He moved to Arizona, over 15 years ago, from Michigan.
The following is a letter addressing the students, faculty and parents of Buena High School:
To the students, Parent and Staff of Buena High School,
I write this open letter with very strong mixed feelings. My time with all of you at Buena High School has been fulfilling beyond what mere words can express. I am truly humbled by the outpouring of sentiment that continually comes my way. As I contemplate moving into the next phase of my life I am reminded of countless conversations with many of you over the past nearly two years. The common thread in every one of those conversations is the fact that I walked away a better person for simply having had them. The Buena High family along with the community of Sierra Vista has allowed me to achieve many of my personal goals and dreams. I thank you for that from the bottom of my heart.
Most importantly, I thank you for allowing me to play a small role in the educational journey of Buena High School and its students. I will forever be in your debt. When I arrived in Sierra Vista my intention was to close out my career as a building principal at Buena High School. In my mind I committed to tenure of at least five years in that position. Unfortunately, due to some setbacks relative to my health I am unable to fulfill that personal and professional time commitment.
Please accept my apologies for leaving a job unfinished and my best wishes for the future. I am confident that Buena will progress and grow as an educational institution and ask that you support my replacement with the same level of tenacity that you have supported me.
SVUSD is extending best wishes to Schreur on his future endeavors, and has assured the community they are working to find a suitable replacement for the high school’s principal, before the 2013-2014 school year.
