A Department of Army civilian police officer died Thursday morning on Fort Huachuca while doing the running portion of the Physical Agility Test, Ft. Huachuca spokeswoman Tanja Linton stated.
Bart Child, 29, of Sierra Vista and another DA police officer were on the track doing a 1.5 mile run to prepare for the DA Police Academy.
Child collapsed during the run and was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Health Center. He was pronounced dead at 10:23 a.m., according to a news release.
"DA Police Officer Bart Child was a valued member of the Directorate of Emergency Services team, and he will be sorely missed by all DES personnel. His wife and three children are in our thoughts and prayers," said Dan Ortega, director of Emergency Services.
Child is survived by a wife and three children. A memorial service will be held at the Main Post Chapel Monday at 10 a.m., Linton stated.
The cause of death is currently being investigated.
