Imagine Sierra Vista goes pink to honor breast cancer awareness month | Events
Today Imagine Sierra Vista students and staff participated in the school’s first annual Think Pink Day.
In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, both students and staff were encouraged to wear all the pink they could find.
Staff, dressed in pink, were astounded to see the amount of students and parents wearing the signature color for breast cancer awareness. To kick off the days activities, students were led onto the school field to form an enormous pink ribbon, as stories about personal experiences with cancer were told and a moment of silence was observed for all those lost to this devastating disease.
The pink ribbon came in handy as a teaching tool as well as a reminder of breast cancer, as teachers used the shape of the ribbon practice lines and shapes with younger students. Teachers engaged older students in discussions and activities, which helped them to understand and be aware of the effects of breat cancer.
Flush with the excitement and enthusiasm from this inaugural event, faculty at Imagine Sierra Vista have already begun planning for 2013.
