Area residents are asked to remember wildlife when decorating for Halloween.
Arizona Game and Fish is asking that residents remember that Halloween pumpkins, as well as fall decorations like gourds or squash can attract wildlife when displayed outside.
“Javelina, coyotes, deer and even bears eat some of the vegetables that are part of traditional holiday displays,” said Regional Supervisor Raul Vega of Game and Fish in Tucson, in a recent news release. “When displayed outdoors, they may attract wildlife to homes, potentially creating conflicts with people.”
Residents are asked to display Jack-O-Lanterns and cornucopias inside, on window sills so they might be seen from the outside if desired, and then discarded when the holiday is over. This helps prevent unexpected encounters with wildlife foraging for food.
