Prescribed burns to begin in Ft. Huachuca and Sierra Vista area
Residents of Ft. Huachuca and the Sierra Vista area should be on alert for an 'early' fire season.   There are seven prescribed burns on the schedule for this area for a total of  4,800 acres. Designated areas for burning are located in the northwestern grasslands and northern foothills of Ft. Huachuca.  In its seventh year, the program hopes to continue to promote the successful partnership between the Sierra Vista Ranger District and Ft. Huachuca, to continue supporting military training and also to help maintain ecological stability in already fire-adapted areas.   Residents should also be on the lookout for another prescribed burn, this one located in the Lyle Canyon area of the Huachuca Mountains.  It will occur about the same time as the Ft. Huachuca burns, but will only encompass about 3,100 acres.    The Lyle Canyon burn will take approximately two to three days to finish, depending on the weather conditions in the area.  The burn area will begin two miles north of Parker Canyon Lake, east of the intersection of State Route 83 and Forest Road 201, and south of Forest Road 202.   For further information please contact the Sierra Vista Ranger District at 520-378-0311.
