SVPD arrest suspect for burglary and trafficking in stolen property

An alleged burglary suspect was arrested on Friday after he listed stolen tools on ‘Craig’s List’.

Earlier in September a resident reported a burglary to the Sierra Vista Police Department (SVPD), stating that several tools were allegedly stolen from a storage shed.  The day after the incident, September 23 the victim went on Craig’s List and found items listed for sale that had been taken from the shed.  The victim contacted SVPD to report the findings.

SV Special Operations Bureau then made arrangements with the seller, identified as Kenneth Carl Beatty, to view and purchase the tools.  After Special Operations Bureau made the purchase, the victim was able to id the tools as theirs.

SVPD obtained a search warrant on October 5, for Beatty’s residence, where they found several other items related to the September 22 burglary.  Also found during the search were several small bags alleged to contain heroin, numerous spoons with burnt residue and several syringes that are consistent with heroin use.  In addition to the drugs and paraphernalia, a .22 caliber handgun was found with the serial numbers ground off.

Beatty was taken into custody and charged with burglary, trafficking in stolen property, possession of narcotic drugs, and possession of dangerous drugs and defacing a firearm.  He is currently booked into the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
