SVPD arrest suspect for unlawful flight from law enforcement

Sierra Vista Police arrested a 21-year-old for reckless driving and exhibition of speed after he was clocked at over 120 miles per hour.

The incident happened late yesterday evening, when a SVPD officer noticed a motorcycle turn off Avenida Cochise onto State Route 92 south and accelerate quickly to a high rate of speed.  The officer attempted to catch up with the motorcyclist, later identified as Travis Sartain, but was unable to so.  According to the officer’s report, the car was traveling at over 120 miles per hour following the motorcycle, but the motorcycle kept pulling away.

Sartain slowed down enough at one point for the officer to catch up, according to reports, but sped off again after the officer flashed his emergency lights and used his siren.  Sartain continued south on SR 92 until he turned off onto Bevers Street, where according to the officer following him he was finally able to make contact, after Sartain pulled off into a residence on South Pueblo Ave.  He was then arrested.

According to the police, when questioned about how fast he thought he was going, Sartain estimated about 170 miles per hour.

Sartain is currently booked into the Cochise County Jail on the following charges – exhibition of speed, reckless driving, and unlawful flight from law enforcement
