Here is the earlier story:
Early yesterday morning Sierra Vista Police responded to a call from a motel about a possible robbery.
The Suburban Extended Stay motel was the site of the alleged crime, involving two victims and three possible suspects.
The first victim was assaulted by the three suspects after leaving a motel room to smoke a cigarette. The suspects, described as three Hispanic males, held guns on the first victim and took him to a vehicle parked nearby and allegedly pistol whipped him. After the beating the victim claimed he was taken to an area behind Joyce Clark Middle School and robbed of personal belongings, one of which was the key to the motel room. The first victim also stated he recognized one of the suspects from an earlier encounter.
The three suspects returned to the motel; two of the suspects entered the room using the stolen key. The third suspect remained behind in another vehicle, according to the victim’s account, while the other two suspects robbed the second victim of several hundred dollars and personal possessions.
The second victim was then allegedly taken outside and placed in the trunk of the vehicle owned by the first victim. This second victim was then driven to a nearby apartment complex, where the suspects tried to take a motorcycle from the back of a truck. After this the second victim was released by the suspects.
A suspect was also recognized by the second victim, according to officials, he was the same one the first victim recognized. During the course of their investigation SVPD discovered the name of the recognized suspect as Jesus Oscar Rodriguez. Both victims later positively identified the 32-year-old resident of Sierra Vista.
The vehicle used by the suspects was located as well, at a residence in Sierra Vista. Rodriguez tried to escape the police while they were obtaining a search warrant, by getting into the suspect’s vehicle and driving off. Officers later stopped the vehicle and arrested Rodriguez.
He is charged with two counts each of robbery, armed robbery, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, and kidnapping. He was also charged with possession of dangerous drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is currently in custody at the Cochise County Jail.
Sierra Vista Police detectives are still investigating the identities of the other two suspects. Anyone with information should contact Detective Butler at the SVPD at 452-7500
