Sierra Vista seeing an increase in burglaries | Crime
The Sierra Vista Police Department has noted a 10% increase in burglaries over the past two months compared to the same time last year. Officers have indicated several of the burglaries were completed by unforced entry because doors or windows were left unlocked or open.
The Sierra Vista Police Department would like to remind residents to secure their houses and vehicles when leaving them, even for short periods of time. Recently, a vehicle burglary was committed when a vehicle was left unlocked for just a few minutes as the owner ran into a store.
Removing or hiding items from view will also reduce the temptation for criminals to target your house or vehicle. One sure way of accomplishing this is to lock valuables in your trunk. Taking a few extra steps can drastically reduce your chances of becoming a victim.
The Sierra Vista Police Department also provides a free burglary prevention inspection for residences. The inspection takes approximately 45 minutes and residents will receive detailed recommendations to better secure your home.
To take advantage of this program, please call the Sierra Vista Police Department at 452-7500 and request an inspection or use the City’s website SierraVistzaAZ.gov and search for security.
