SVPD makes four DUI arrests in one night | Crime
On Sunday, April 28, officers from the Sierra Vista Police Department (SVPD) made four Driving Under the Influence (DUI) arrests. One was as a result of an accident that was reported in the 2900 block of Saint Andrews Drive. Officers arrived on scene to discover a vehicle had struck a tree in the yard of the residence. The driver, identified as Anthony Smith, 21 years old, from Sierra Vista, was sitting in the driver’s seat. The investigation concluded Smith had been travelling at a high speed and lost control of the vehicle prior to striking the tree. Officers noted it was fortunate the tree was in the front yard otherwise the vehicle would have struck the house. Smith was arrested for Extreme DUI with a blood alcohol level of .249 which is three times the legal limit of .08.
Jorden Betts, 23 years old, of Sierra Vista, was arrested after officers observed him driving a motorcycle in an apartment complex and then stumble as he got off the motorcycle. Betts’ blood alcohol level was .20.
Rebecca Barnett, 48 years old, of Sierra Vista, was arrested for DUI drugs after a traffic stop. Mitchell Barnett, 49 years old, also of Sierra Vista, was arrested while en-route to pick up his wife, Rebecca Barnett, after her DUI arrest. Mitchell Barnett’s blood alcohol level was .131.
SVPD continues to work in conjunction with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety; both agencies have a Zero Tolerance policy for DUIs. SVPD urges drivers not to drive if they have been drinking instead call a taxi or ask a sober friend for a ride.
