This February 14, be a Valentine not a Victim

The following is a news release from the Southern Arizona BBB warning about Valentine's Day scams.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, Better Business Bureau of Southern Arizona warns that Cupid’s arrow may be aimed directly at consumers’ wallets. Those who find themselves awash in love’s emotion should remember that con artists thrive on the fact that emotion can sometimes trump logic.

There are three categories of scams that we all should be aware of at this romantic season as well as throughout the year.

Right turn lane closed at intersection of Coronado Dr. and Tacoma St.

The right turn lane at the intersection of Coronado Drive and Tacoma Street will be closed from Wednesday, February 8 through Friday, February 10.  As part of the subdivision improvements for Coronado Commons, the contractor needs this section closed to connect to the water line.  Detours will be in place starting at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Air Force announces Environmental Impact meetings

The Air Force is holding public hearings for the environmental impact studies, for their new F-35 pilot training program.

Hearings will be held at the following locations:

Sierra Vista, AZ.  01/12/12.  In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the City of Sierra Vista facilities will adhere to the following schedule:

City Hall, Sierra Vista Public Library, The Cove, Ethel Berger Center, Henry F. Hauser Museum, Oscar Yrun Community Center, Visitor Center, Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center, and the Compost Facility will be closed Monday, January 16.

Thief steals 65 firearms from Sierra Vista store

SIERRA VISTA, AZ (KOLD) – The new year did not begin so well at Mountain Trading Company in Sierra Vista.

"This is pretty significant as far as having this many handguns go out into the community, and obviously having the idea that they won't stay in the immediate area.  They could go far north as Pima County, Pinal County, or Maricopa County," said Cochise County spokeswoman Carol Capas.

City of Sierra Vista improves Insurance Service Office rating

The Sierra Vista Fire Department has recently improved its rating after being reviewed by the Insurance Service Office (ISO), an independent organization that rates a community’s fire suppression delivery system. 

The ISO uses a standard classification system to rate the overall effectiveness of communities on a scale of 1 to 10—with 1 being the best.
