Memorial Day City Closures, Trash and Recycling Schedule

All City facilities—except The Cove (open swim will be available from 1:30–5:30 p.m.), will be closed on Monday, May 30. 

Sierra Vista Transit buses will run regular routes, but with no curbside service.

Public Works would like to remind refuse and recycling customers that service dates will change for this holiday.  Monday and Tuesday’s refuse pickups are rescheduled for the week of Memorial Day, May 30.  Monday refuse pickup has moved to Tuesday (May 31) and Tuesday’s refuse service will be on Wednesday (June 1). 

Handicap Ramp Work Causes Sidewalk Closures

The Arizona Department of Transportation will be performing street maintenance work on Fry Boulevard for the next several weeks.

Work is scheduled for evening to minimally impact area businesses. Southern Arizona Paving has been hired to overlay Fry Boulevard from Buffalo Soldier Trail to SR 90/92. Work included in the proposed project consists of; concrete handicap ramp replacements (at street corners currently not meeting ADA standards), partial milling of outside travel lanes, and placement of a 2-inch thick layer of rubberized asphalt on Fry Boulevard. 

Other work items included in the project are pavement marking, resetting of utility frames and resetting of survey monuments. 

Buffalo Soldier Historic Sites tours cancelled through the summer

Bad news for people interested in taking the Buffalo Soldier Historic Sites Tour this summer- the tours have been cancelled over the summer months.

The Buffalo Soldier Historic Sites Tour, Fort Huachuca, normally scheduled on the third Saturday of each month, has been cancelled as of May 21. The cancellation will remain in effect through the summer months.

Suspect Arrested for 2 Armed Robberies

Suspect Arrested for 2 Armed Robberies

Police arrest a suspect after two overnight armed robberies in Sierra Vista, said Officer Tracy Grady of the Sierra Vista Police Department.

Cameron Metcalf, 19, was arrested for two counts of Armed Robbery.

The first armed robbery was reported at the Circle K, located at 720 S. 7th at 12:38am.  Metcalf allegedly brandished a weapon and made off with an unspecified amount of money, according to Officer Grady.

Around 2:38am, a second armed robbery was reported at the Walgreen’s, located at 1950 E. Fry Boulevard.
