Buffalo Soldier Historic Sites Tour, Fort Huachuca

Learn more about the renowned Buffalo Soldiers, the All-Black unit stationed on Fort Huachuca in the late 1800s through the turn of the 20th century, by taking a tour on the post. 

Tours of the Buffalo Soldier historic sites are held the third Saturday of each month, and participants are invited to meet at the City of Sierra Vista’s Public Library, 2600 E. Tacoma Street, and board a van for the tour.  After the two-hour tour, plus additional time at the Fort Huachuca Museum, the van returns participants to the library.

The Sierra Vista Public Library is hosting a book fair on February 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Titled “Memoirs to Mysteries”, the fair will feature 30 plus Arizona

Arizona Centennial Celebration

On February 14, 1912, after nearly 49 years as a U.S. territory, Arizona became the 48th and last of the contiguous states to enter the union of the United States of America.  To honor 100 years of statehood, Sierra Vista is planning a celebration on Saturday, February 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park.   

Mayor Rick Mueller will kick off the celebration with the re-dedication of Veterans Memorial Park and the unveiling of a monument recognizing area veterans at 11 a.m. 

“Many local organizations and residents have donated funds for the new monument honoring local veterans.  I hope everyone will come out to see the monument and to celebrate Arizona’s momentous occasion, 100 years of statehood,” remarks Mayor Rick Mueller.

Ongoing:  The Sierra Vista Farmers Market is held on Thursdays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  With fresh produce, baked treats, eggs, locally grown vegetables and fruit as well as unique items and products available, the Sierra Vista Farmers Market is highly popular.

AZ needs participants for Cultural Diversity Fair

The City of Sierra Vista Commission on Cultural Diversity is seeking participants for the 2012 Cultural Diversity Fair.  Local residents, whose ethnic background or cultural heritage is from another country, are invited to share information at the fair. 

Holiday craft party for Sierra Vista kids

Children ages 3 to 18 are cordially invited to make ornaments, holiday cards, snowflakes, and other festive holiday crafts.
